Life changes, oh my!

Well hellooo strangers! Long time no see! I am still alive and well, I promise, I just have been neglecting this blog. There’s no excuse besides just life. And man oh man, life has changed since I last wrote a post.

First of all, Happiest of 2019!! Can you believe that it’s TWENTY NINETEEN?! How did that happen? I swear, 2018 just went by in a blink of an eye.

2019 is starting out to be a year of transitions for me. First of all, I now have a full time job (YAY).  I went back to my job that I had 10 years ago when I first graduated college. Is it the ideal position? No but it is the ideal company for me, at this moment of my life. I am so grateful to be back to having a reliable paycheck, benefits, and just overall better financial health. I have lofty goals within this company and I am so so excited to see where I can go (up and up, that’s the goal) the second time around :).

Second, which is the biggest life change, I WENT BACK TO SCHOOL! For nursing! Like whhhaaa?? I am currently doing the pre-reqs and should be able to apply for the actual program next year , so please wish me luck! I’m having to train my brain to be a student again. Why did I decide to go back to school , you might ask?  Bottom line: I want to be able to have a job wherever I go. And I believe that when you’re a nurse, you will have an easier time finding a job than let’s say a marketing job in a town saturated with marking people and businesses. But that’s just been my experience (the marketing job , not being a nurse, at least not yet 🙂 )

So, suffice to say, 2019 has started with a bang for me and I am excited to see where else this year will take me.

How about you?? I want to know how your new year is starting. Let me know what you’re hoping to accomplish this year. I can’t wait to know!

Until next time,

Let’s be adventurers!

med_res-7

I love this quote so much because you can find adventure from anywhere if you’re open to it. Right now, I am on this amazing adventure called life. It’s not the easiest to move from an established community (aka home) to a state where you barely know anyone. I needed to build a new circle, meet new people. All I can say is that thank god I’m an extrovert {introvert}!

7 months later, I am feeling home in my new state of North Carolina. I have my routine, new friends, new hangouts. I’ve been lucky that my new city has felt welcoming. Here’s some lessons I’ve learned the past several months:

  • Faceboook Events – Thanks the heavens for social media. I checked out facebook events every weekend when we first moved here (and I still do!) and that’s how I was able to find out about what was happening in my new city. It’s where I first found out about Alisha’s Wise Women Wednesday events! I went to her first one a couple of months ago, didn’t know anyone, left feeling grateful that I went as that’s where I met some new friends! I also met local female entrepreneurs who are just super inspiring to be around!
  • Explore Explore Explore! – I feel lucky that we found an apartment in downtown Greensboro (even if it’s really only one long street ha) so I am able to walk around, explore new cafes, shops, bars, etc. When we first moved here, I was able to just walk around to explore our new surroundings. Found out where the local co-op was, the library, the parks, the breweries, etc.
  • Workout! – I needed to find a new fitness routine/community stat. I was pretty involved with my gym back in MN and missed being part of a community like that. So I tried a couple crossfit gyms and several yoga studios. I ended up joining the local YMCA because a) CHEAP b) got me back into running c) it’s literally a 5-10 min walk from our apartment and then joined Radiance Yoga for my namaste fix. If  ou’re ever in Greensboro, you MUST check this yoga studio out! I love love love love the instructors there!

Moving to a new city where you don’t know anyone is never easy but I chose to look at it as a positive thing. I looked at it as a new adventure with my life partner aka husband and we get to experience it together!

What about you? Have you ever had to move to a new city? What was your experience like and do you have any lessons you want to share?

Until next time!

How to rock your morning!

I know there are some people that are just not morning people.  It might be because they work weird hours, likes sleeping in, hates breakfast, etc.  Whatever the reason is, I am here to convince you that YOU, yes YOU, can also be a morning person like me!

  • Get enough sleep! – Sleep is so important and don’t I know it!  My body just does not function the same way when I am sleep deprived.  I work regular hours (8-5) so if I even have half a prayer of getting a workout in before work, I need to get to bed in a decent hour.  I’m talking being in bed by 8 or 9 pm sometimes!  I mean, really, where am I going to go on a Monday night anyway? I’m old yo.
  • Speaking of exercise … – Get your body moving in the morning!  Even if it’s a quick 10 minute workout ( walk, HIIT, run, jump , just move!), it will wake your body up, get those endorphins flowing, and hopefully will start your day on a positive note.  Personally, I am a fan of group fitness classes.  I love Alchemy, a local Twin Cities gym, that combines power yoga + HIIT in a less than an hour class.  The workout changes every day so you never know what you are going to get (well, unless you check out the website where they post the workout the night before.  But sometimes I don’t for a pleasant surprise ☺)  If you’re in the Twin Cities area and have never tried Alchemy, talk to me yo!  I’ll take you for your first free week☺  I also love CorePower Yoga for Yoga Sculpt or their C2 classes.  They also offer a free week so if you are ever curious about yoga, take advantage of that!

  • BREAKFAST – Have you ever heard that saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day?  IT’S BECAUSE IT IS!  I legit go to sleep at night because it’s a time machine to breakfast.  Breakfast food is my favorite probably because 1) it’s my first meal of the day 2) There are so many options to choose from – oats, pancakes, avo toast, I WANT THEM ALL!  I cannot stress enough how important it is to eat breakfast.  It fuels my morning and it makes me happy because it tastes so damn good.  Is your excuse that you don’t have enough time the morning to make breakfast?  I call bullshit!  I have the solution for you:  Make it the night before! ☺  One of my absolute favorite go to breakfast meal is my overnight oats.  Go ahead, google overnight oats.  You will find 100s of amazing recipes and you will have the need to try them all.  Don’t like oats? What’s wrong with you? I kid I kid.  But if oats isn’t your deal, there’s still other things you can make the night before to grab and go in the morning.   Check out Minimalist Baker

  • Coffee.  Enough Said. ✌

What about you?? Any morning tips, workout tips, breakfast tips, to share?? Leave me a comment so I can try out your tips too! ♥

change.

Have you heard of the 5 love languages ?  I took their little quiz and it turns out that my love language is “Words of Affirmation”;  no wonder I am obsessed with pinning every single quote I see on pinterest :p

So when I read this quote, I was immediately drawn to it.  Life is too short .. you want to be living it.. and not just existing.  Easier said than done, I know.  Change can be scary, change can be hard, but change can also be exciting and fabulous!

Take me for example.  After working 7 years at a company, the first job I’ve ever had after graduating from college, I was starting to feel restless, unchallenged, and unappreciated.  I knew I needed to leave but my head was full of doubt; What if I don’t find anything else?  What if I don’t find something that will pay the same?  What if I don’t like my new coworkers?  But I took the plunge, as uncomfortable as it was at first, and started looking for other opportunities, and I am so happy that I took that first uncomfortable step.  Turns out that yes, you can find another career path, and you do meet new amazing people!

Another thing I am mindful about is my time.  I’m sure you’ve heard it before “time is precious” but it’s definitely resonating with me now than ever before, because let’s face it, I’m not getting any younger!  I want to spend my time with the people that I love, traveling more, exploring my passions {animals, fitness, nutrition}, and not waste any time on anything that will not help me grow as a person and live a life that I’m obsessed with!

What about you?  Are you living the life you’re obsessed with?  If not, what’s stopping you?
