Women In Charge – a new series

Ok, so here’s the deal.  I like to surround myself with inspiring people.  I like to be around people that push me to be a better person, people who motivate me, people who inspire me.  And by people, I seem to mean women.

There are so many women that I just find so inspiring, so boss,  and that led me to this idea of starting a series that I am calling (for now) my “Women in Charge” series.


My idea is to interview women that I find inspiring , write about them, so that I can share their story to other people in hopes that they will inspire you too!

So for my first guest, I thought I would go to someone near and dear to me, who is a boss babe, and is definitely an inspiration to me.

I would like to introduce you to my friend, Lauren M.


Lauren and I met via the wonderful world wide web.  We met at a Tone it UP MN meetup a couple of years ago.  So from the get go, we had the love of exercise in common!  Isn’t the internet the best?


Unfortunately, Lauren has moved away from the Twin Cities so we aren’t able to regularly meet up for workouts, coffee, or dancing the night away at a club and telling people we were from LA (LOL) but technology is so great that we are still able to keep in touch and see what each other is up to even if it’s only sometimes via social media.

Now, if you are following her on instagram or Facebook friends with her, you know that this chica is one bad ass babe, who started training for her first triathlon last year and now has done more, including the New York City Tri ( can you imagine swimming in the Hudson river?!? ).  So I definitely wanted to ask some questions about that!

If you had to describe yourself to a complete stranger in one minute, what would you say?

I’m a forever smiling, genuine person who wants to contribute to society and make an impact in everything that I do. I also love to sweat and eat food.

What got you started with participating in triathlons?

I participated in my first indoor triathlon about a year and a half ago. My coworkers were doing it so I decided to join in on the fun. That 10 min swim, 30 min bike and 20 min run inside the gym made me proud, proud that my body could push through that challenging workout. I immediately wanted more so I signed up for a sprint triathlon shortly after that.

Any tips for someone who would like to do their first triathlons?

Indoor triathlons are a great way to get a taste of the sport. They are non intimidating and really fun! Most importantly find the fun in the journey. It will be challenging and it will push you past your limits but that’s the beauty of it.

What keeps you motivated to be active and healthy?

Inspiring others to make a healthy change in their lives. It makes my heart flutter when friends and family tell me that I inspired them to take charge of their health in some way.

Any favorite recipe you would like to share with us?
